Many are the "misfortunes" – Psalm 34:20

I’m a little late posting this.  It’s actually from yesterday’s responsive reading.  But, I wonder if there is a better way to translate the beginning of Psalm 34 to capture the literary features there.  This video deals with that.  However, I don’t know if the word “misfortunes” has too much baggage with it.  Anyway, let me know what you think.

  • “Misfortunes” is an excellent translation in context. Or so it seems to me.

    • My only concern was that it might too much of the connotation of “bad luck.” Also, I’m sure there is the matter of trying to keep some consistency by translating the same word in the same manner throughout. But, I think that sacrifices a great deal in terms missing the literary features of a poetic text.

  • I don’t think it really matters since raot is basically bad stuff, troubles, misfortunes, evils etc.
