Peter Kreeft on Ecumenism

I’ve been thinking quite a bit about ecumenism lately.  This is one of my favorite audio recordings on the subject.  Kreeft walks a fine line sometimes between ecumenist and apologist.  And, I don’t agree with everything that he says here as I might leave open a bit more room for openness on non-essentials, but I think that he makes a lot of good points, like this gem:

“…my hope is based most fundamentally on the fact that the most passionate ecumenist in all of existence is Jesus Christ.  We all know His prayer to His Father just before His Crucifixion in John 17, “That they may be one even as Thou the Father art in me and I in Thee, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe.””

Don’t just read the transscript if you’re checking it out.  This talk was given at an Episcopal church, so some of the statements he makes are a bit tongue and cheek.  And, you may miss that if you can’t hear his tone of voice.
