Claude Mariottini on Roman Catholic Womenpriests

Dr. Claude Mariottini has recently linked to an interesting article on Roman Catholic Womenpriests.  Go over to his blog to check it out.  But, also to add a bit to the discussion, lay people are often somewhat surprised when I inform them that women were allowed to take the Nazirite vow in the Old Testament.  Jim Getz has an interesting post about women nazirites so be sure to check it out as well.

Influential Female Scholars Meme

In line with the meme started HERE, these are female scholars whose work has been influential in the wider field of Biblical Studies as well as for my own understanding of the Old Testament.  I have linked to the faculty page for each and what I consider to be one of their most influential works.

  1. Phyllis Trible – Check out Texts of Terror Paper
  2. Carol Meyers – Check out Discovering Eve: Ancient Israelite Women in Context
  3. Adele Berlin – Check out Poetics and Interpretation of Biblical Narrative
  4. Susan Ackerman– Check out Warrior, Dancer, Seductress, Queen: Women in Judges and Biblical Israel
  5. Susan Niditch – Check out War in the Hebrew Bible: A Study in the Ethics of Violence

In addition, for those who are interested there is an absolutely fantastic article on the work of female scholars and the Hebrew Bible in The Jewish Study Bible edited by Adele Berlin (in the list above).
